**NEW DELHI** – A Delhi resident’s desperate plea for free onions on a Swiggy food order has sparked a viral sensation and prompted a unique response from the online delivery giant. The customer, whose flatmate shared a screenshot of his order request on Reddit, pleaded with the restaurant, “Bhaiyya please send round cut onions… Onions bahut costly hai (onions are very expensive), I can’t buy. Please send onions bhaiyya thoda,” highlighting the soaring price of onions in the city.

The Reddit post quickly went viral, catching the attention of Swiggy co-founder Phani Kishan Addepalli. In response to the customer’s plight, and the overwhelming online attention, Addepalli announced a one-hour flash sale on Swiggy Instamart, offering onions at a heavily discounted price of Rs 39 per kg in the Delhi-NCR region from 7 PM to 8 PM on November 28th.

“Came across this post about a Swiggy customer trying to save on the rising price of onions,” Addepalli tweeted. “We feel your pain… just for you, we’re launching a flash sale today!”

The unusual promotion comes amidst a sharp increase in onion prices across India, with prices in Delhi-NCR reaching Rs 70-80 per kg.
