Fri Nov 29 17:06:05 UTC 2024: ## J&K to Hold Constable Exams Amidst Past Irregularities
**Srinagar, November 29, 2024** – Over 5.5 lakh applicants will compete for 4,002 constable positions in Jammu & Kashmir’s Home Department in upcoming exams scheduled for December 1st, 8th, and 22nd. This recruitment drive follows a 2022 sub-inspector selection process marred by irregularities, which are currently under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The J&K Chief Secretary, Atal Dulloo, has ordered stringent security measures to prevent any recurrence of malpractice. Deputy Commissioners have been instructed to personally oversee exam centers and ensure sufficient security personnel are deployed. The OMR sheets will be personally monitored by officials until they are returned to the J&K Services Selection Recruitment Board (SSRB).
The CBI investigation into the 2022 sub-inspector exam uncovered a large-scale conspiracy involving JKSSB officials, a Bengaluru-based private company, candidates, and police personnel. The investigation revealed payments ranging from ₹20 lakh to ₹30 lakh were allegedly made to access leaked question papers. Those implicated include the former JKSSB chairman, the then examination controller, gang members, teachers, and serving/retired J&K Police officials. The upcoming constable exams will be closely scrutinized to ensure a fair and transparent process.
