**Bengaluru, November 30, 2024** – University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof. Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar praised the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 at the 9th annual convocation of REVA University on Friday. He highlighted the policy’s alignment with the Indian Constitution’s commitment to equity and inclusivity, particularly its aim to improve access to quality education for disadvantaged groups, as per Article 41.
Prof. Kumar emphasized NEP’s role in creating a progressive, inclusive, and sustainable future for India’s education system. He also urged educational institutions to integrate government initiatives like the PM Vidya Lakshmi Scheme, PM Internship Scheme, and the One Nation One Subscription scheme into their programs. The UGC chairman further stressed the importance of mother-tongue instruction, citing research demonstrating its positive impact on educational outcomes.
The convocation ceremony saw 4,537 students receive degrees, including 3,311 undergraduates, 1,156 postgraduates, and 70 PhD scholars. Sixty-six students were awarded gold medals for exceptional achievement. REVA University Chancellor Dr. P. Shyama Raju presided over the event, which also featured the presentation of a gold medal by Prof. Kumar.
