Sat Nov 30 12:45:14 UTC 2024: ## Migrant Worker Electrocuted at Chennai ATM Kiosk
**CHENNAI, INDIA –** A migrant worker from Odisha died after being electrocuted at an ATM kiosk in Chennai on Saturday, just as the city prepared for the arrival of Cyclone Fengal. Chandan, who worked at a private showroom in Parrys and resided in company-provided housing, was attempting to withdraw cash when the tragedy struck.
Police reports indicate Chandan lost his balance while opening the ATM door and accidentally touched a live electrical cable connected to a nearby iron pole. The pole was apparently charged due to a snapped cable. The resulting electric shock threw him onto the road.
Passersby rushed to his aid and transported him to a government hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival. Muthialpet police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
The death occurred as the India Meteorological Department warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, including Chennai, in anticipation of Cyclone Fengal’s landfall.
