Fri Nov 29 23:50:00 UTC 2024: ## Maharashtra Government Formation Delayed as Eknath Shinde Leaves for Hometown
**Mumbai, November 30, 2024** – The formation of the new Maharashtra government is facing further delays after interim Chief Minister Eknath Shinde unexpectedly left for his hometown. Speculation is rife that his departure is linked to dissatisfaction over his role in the upcoming government.
A week after the state assembly elections, uncertainty continues to surround the appointment of the new Chief Minister. While the swearing-in ceremony was tentatively scheduled for December 5th at Azad Maidan or Mahalaxmi Racecourse in Mumbai, Shinde’s departure has forced a postponement of a crucial coalition meeting planned for Friday.
Sources suggest that Shinde’s trip to his village in Satara district stems from frustration over his perceived diminished role in the new government. A key meeting of the ruling coalition, including BJP leaders Devendra Fadnavis and NCP leader Ajit Pawar, has been rescheduled for Sunday in Mumbai. Reports indicate the new government could be sworn in sometime next week.
Following a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday, Shinde stated that discussions were positive and further talks were scheduled for Friday in Mumbai. He clarified that he would not obstruct government formation and would abide by the decisions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah regarding the Chief Ministership.
While Devendra Fadnavis is reportedly the frontrunner for the Chief Minister’s position, reports suggest that Shinde has been offered the Deputy Chief Minister’s post. However, there are also rumors that Shinde might instead propose his son, Shrikant Shinde, for the position. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Shirsat indicated that if Shinde refuses the Deputy CM post, another party member would be considered. Shinde is expected to make a decision by the evening.
The Shiv Sena has refuted claims that Shinde’s departure signifies discontent, attributing it instead to health reasons. Shiv Sena leader Uday Samant stated Shinde is facing health issues and will be a part of the new government. However, the exact reason behind Shinde’s absence remains unclear until further information emerges.
