Sat Nov 30 04:04:19 UTC 2024: ## Bangladesh Thrash Ireland by 154 Runs in ODI Series Opener

**Dhaka, Bangladesh:** Bangladesh launched their 2025 ODI World Cup qualification campaign with a resounding victory, defeating Ireland by 154 runs in the first One Day International at Dhaka.

Bangladesh, electing to bat first, posted a challenging 252/4 in their allotted 50 overs. Captain Sharmin Akhter spearheaded the innings with a magnificent 96 off 89 balls, studded with 13 fours and a six. Her 104-run partnership with Murshida Khatun (38) and a steady opening stand of 59 runs between Fargana Hoque (50*) and Khatun laid the foundation for a strong total.

Ireland’s chase never gained momentum. They were rocked early, losing two wickets in two balls to Marufa Akter. Nahida Akter and Sultana Khatun then wreaked havoc in the middle and lower order respectively, each claiming impressive figures of 3-23. Sultana Khatun even managed two wickets in a single over. Ireland were eventually bowled out for a paltry 98 runs in 28.5 overs, with only three batters reaching double figures. Sarah Forbes’ 25 was the top score for the tourists.

The comprehensive victory sets Bangladesh up nicely for the remainder of the series, demonstrating their strong intent to secure direct qualification for the 2025 World Cup.
