**Kolkata, India (October 27, 2023)** – Budget airline IndiGo announced the launch of direct flights between Kolkata and Phuket, Thailand, starting December 27th. This marks IndiGo’s second direct route to Phuket, adding to its existing Delhi-Phuket service. The new daily flights will significantly boost connectivity for tourists from eastern India, strengthening trade and tourism ties between India and Southeast Asia.
The airline will operate flights six days a week (Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays), with varying departure times. The addition of this route brings IndiGo’s total weekly flights between India and Thailand to 93, including 11 weekly flights to Bangkok.
According to Vinay Malhotra, IndiGo’s Head of Global Sales, the new route reflects the growing demand for travel between India and Thailand, fueled by Thailand’s visa-free policy for Indian citizens and Phuket’s popularity as a tourist destination. Malhotra emphasized IndiGo’s commitment to providing affordable and convenient travel experiences.
Kolkata’s strategic position as a regional hub for Indian tourists, coupled with its improving infrastructure, makes it an ideal departure point for this new route, further enhancing accessibility to Phuket for travellers from the eastern part of India.
