**Chicago, IL –** A 22-year-old Indian student, Sai Teja Nukarapu, was shot and killed at a gas station in Chicago on Friday, prompting outrage and calls for swift action from Indian officials. Nukarapu, a Telangana native pursuing an MBA in the US, was working part-time at the station to support himself. According to BRS leader Madhusudan Thatha, who visited the victim’s family in Khammam district of Telangana, Nukarapu was not on duty at the time of the shooting but was helping a friend.
The Consulate General of India in Chicago has condemned the murder, demanding immediate action against the perpetrators and pledging full support to the victim’s family. In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the Consulate expressed shock and sadness, stating, “We demand immediate action against the culprits. Consulate will extend all possible help to the family and friends of the victim.” The Consulate is working with the Indian Embassy and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to ensure justice.
Nukarapu had recently graduated in India before moving to the US for his MBA. Mr. Thatha is also coordinating with the Telugu Association of North America (TANA) to assist the family during this difficult time. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
