**New Delhi:** Pakistan defeated India by 44 runs in their Under-19 Asia Cup opener on Saturday. Shahzib Khan’s magnificent 159 runs led Pakistan to a challenging 281/7 in 50 overs. Despite a fighting 67 from Nikhil Kumar, India’s chase fell short, ending on 237 all out.
Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first. Their innings was anchored by Shahzib’s impressive century, while Usman Khan contributed a valuable 60. India’s bowling struggled to contain the Pakistan batsmen, particularly Shahzib.
In response, India’s top order faltered, losing wickets early. While Nikhil Kumar put up a strong resistance with a well-played 67, the team’s middle order failed to provide adequate support. The loss of key wickets at regular intervals hampered India’s chase, ultimately leading to a 44-run defeat. India’s next match is against Japan. The match also saw the debut of Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the 13-year-old IPL sensation.
