**Imphal, Manipur –** Four militants from two banned groups, the Kangleipak Communist Party (Peoples’ War Group) and the United National Liberation Front (Ningon Macha group), were arrested in Manipur on Thursday, November 28th, police announced Saturday. The arrests followed separate operations and resulted in the seizure of a significant amount of firearms and ammunition.
Three militants from the KCP (PWG) were apprehended in possession of three 5.56 mm INSAS live cartridges, an empty .32 ammunition case, and three mobile phones. The suspects, identified as Chongtham Shyamchandra Singh (23), Maibam Suraj Khan (32), and Boghimayum Sahid Khan (30), were allegedly involved in extortion.
Separately, Sangomshumpham Warish (25) of the UNLF (Ningon Macha group) was arrested with a .32 pistol and ammunition.
Further enhancing the security crackdown, a separate operation on Thursday in Kangpokpi district yielded a significant arms cache, including a .303 rifle, a 9mm pistol, two SBBL guns, an INSAS LMG magazine, two hand grenades, two detonators, 16 cartridges, and three tear smoke grenades. These were recovered during an area domination exercise on S. Mongpi ridge. The arrests and seizures highlight ongoing efforts to combat militancy in the state.
