A red alert was issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for several districts in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Puducherry, warning of extremely heavy rainfall and high tides.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin reviewed the state’s preparedness, while authorities in Puducherry took similar measures. Schools and colleges were closed across affected areas, including Puducherry and several districts in Tamil Nadu. Fishermen were advised not to venture into the sea.

Chennai airport suspended all operations until 7 PM due to the severe weather. Numerous flights were cancelled or delayed, leading to travel advisories for passengers. Public transportation in Chennai was significantly affected, with waterlogging reported across several areas, including Poonamallee High Road and Arumbakkam Road. The IMD director of the Chennai regional meteorological centre, Dr. S Balachandran, warned of extremely heavy rainfall between 1 PM and 2 PM. Coastal districts, particularly between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram, experienced the most significant impact. The IMD is continuously monitoring the cyclone using Doppler weather radars and satellite observations.

Relief camps were set up in vulnerable areas, and officials worked to clear roads of fallen trees and debris. Despite the challenging conditions, the Chennai Metro Rail continued operations, and the government urged IT companies to allow employees to work from home.
