**COIMBATORE, November 29, 2024** – A special court in Coimbatore has sentenced a construction worker to 20 years imprisonment for sexually assaulting his minor daughter. The judgment, handed down by Judge G. Kulasekaran of the Special Court for POCSO Act cases, followed a complaint filed by the girl’s mother in 2021. The court also imposed a fine of ₹11,000 and recommended ₹5 lakh in compensation for the victim. The case was registered by the Pollachi All Women Police.
Separately, members of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) protested in Ukkadam, Coimbatore, condemning the deaths of five Muslims in Uttar Pradesh during a protest against a survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal. The demonstration was led by SDPI district treasurer Iqbal.
