After an emergency executive board meeting on Friday, a decision was postponed until Saturday. Reports suggest Pakistan has finally agreed to a hybrid model for the tournament, meaning matches would be held in multiple locations. However, Pakistan has reportedly insisted that the final be held in Lahore. They’ve also reportedly indicated a willingness to play in a hybrid model in India for future tournaments, should the need arise.
The ICC’s decision follows days of intense negotiations. While all member nations, including India, expressed no objections to a hybrid model during Friday’s meeting, Pakistan’s initial reluctance threatened to derail the tournament. The possibility of the tournament proceeding without Pakistan was discussed if an agreement could not be reached.
The meeting, attended in person by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) representative Najam Sethi and virtually by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, saw protracted discussions. India’s stance remains firm: the Indian team will not travel to Pakistan due to security concerns, a position reiterated by the Ministry of External Affairs.
