ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the party of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has temporarily suspended protests demanding his release from prison following a violent crackdown by security forces. The party reported that at least four protesters were killed and 50 others seriously injured during a Tuesday night raid near D-Chowk in Islamabad. PTI alleges that security forces opened fire with the intent to kill as many protesters as possible.

The three-day protests, which involved blocking major roads, have been temporarily halted in the wake of the violence. The whereabouts of Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali were initially unknown, causing concern within the party. However, PTI later confirmed both individuals are safe in Amin Mansehra town in the northwestern province.

PTI has condemned the government’s actions, accusing security forces of perpetrating violence across the country and expressing its concerns on social media. Authorities have regained control of all roads previously blocked by protesters.
