Sat Nov 30 13:10:00 UTC 2024: ## South Africa’s Stunning Victory Propels them to Second in WTC Rankings

**Durban, South Africa:** South Africa secured a resounding 233-run victory over Sri Lanka in the Durban Test, significantly boosting their chances in the World Test Championship (WTC). This win catapulted them to second place in the WTC standings, surpassing Australia. Sri Lanka slipped to fifth position.

India continues to lead the WTC table with 110 points (61.11% winning percentage) from 15 matches (9 wins, 5 losses, 1 draw). They have four remaining matches against Australia. South Africa, now in second place, has 64 points (59.26% winning percentage) from 9 matches (5 wins, 3 losses, 1 draw). Australia sits in third.

Only five teams remain in contention for the WTC final: India, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka. England, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and the West Indies have been eliminated.

India needs to win three out of their remaining four matches against Australia (or win two and draw one) to secure a place in the final. Australia requires five wins from their six remaining matches (four against India and two against Sri Lanka). South Africa needs to win all three of their remaining matches to qualify. Sri Lanka’s chances depend on winning all three of their remaining matches. New Zealand faces a long shot, needing to win their three-match Test series against England.

The WTC points system awards 12 points for a win, 4 for a draw, and 6 for a tie. Rankings are primarily determined by winning percentage. The current cycle (2023-2025) is the third WTC cycle.
