Sat Nov 30 13:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Jansen Achieves Historic Bowling Feat in Durban Test Victory
**DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA** – South African fast bowler Marco Jansen etched his name into cricketing history on Saturday, claiming a remarkable 11 wickets in the first Test match against Sri Lanka. His performance at Kingsmead in Durban makes him only the fourth bowler ever to take 10 or more wickets in a single Test match at this venue, joining an elite group that includes Australia’s Clarrie Grimmett, Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan, and India’s Venkatesh Prasad.
Jansen’s 11-wicket haul (86 runs conceded in 28.3 overs) is the second-best bowling performance in a Durban Test, surpassed only by Grimmett’s 13-wicket haul in 1936. This is also a significant achievement for Jansen as he’s the first South African left-arm fast bowler to achieve this feat since 1993.
His devastating spell was instrumental in South Africa’s comprehensive 233-run victory, giving them a 1-0 lead in the series. Jansen’s dominance was particularly evident in Sri Lanka’s first innings, where he snagged seven wickets for just 13 runs. He continued his impressive form in the second innings, further disrupting Sri Lanka’s batting order. Sri Lanka, chasing a challenging 516 runs, were bowled out for 282, with Dinesh Chandimal top-scoring with 83.
In 14 Test matches, Jansen boasts an impressive average of 20.05 and 60 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls. Remarkably, earlier this month, he also achieved the fastest T20I fifty in 16 balls at Centurion’s SuperSport Park. This dual prowess with both bat and ball highlights Jansen’s all-round talent and establishes him as a rising star in South African cricket.
