Sat Nov 30 04:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Williamson Makes History, Becomes First New Zealander to Score 9000 Test Runs

**Christchurch, New Zealand:** New Zealand batting star Kane Williamson etched his name in the history books, becoming the first Kiwi batsman to reach 9000 Test runs. He achieved the milestone during the second innings of the ongoing first Test against England in Christchurch, reaching the mark with a score of 26 runs.

Williamson surpasses the previous New Zealand record held by Ross Taylor, who amassed 7684 Test runs. He is also the first New Zealander to reach both 8000 and 9000 Test runs. This achievement comes after narrowly missing a century in the first innings, where he scored 93 runs.

Globally, Williamson is the 19th player to reach the 9000-run mark in Test cricket, trailing only Sachin Tendulkar (15921 runs) on the all-time list. Among active players, only Joe Root has surpassed 10,000 Test runs.

Williamson joins an elite group of players who have achieved this feat, including Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis, Rahul Dravid, Joe Root, Alastair Cook, Kumar Sangakkara, Brian Lara, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Mahela Jayawardene, Allan Border, Steve Waugh, Sunil Gavaskar, Younis Khan, Steve Smith, Hashim Amla, Graeme Smith, and Virat Kohli. He is the last member of the “Fab Four” (Williamson, Root, Smith, Kohli) to reach 9000 Test runs.

Remarkably, Williamson achieved his 9000 runs in 103 matches, tying him with Kumar Sangakkara and Younis Khan for the third-fastest to reach this milestone. Steve Smith holds the record (99 matches), followed by Brian Lara (101 matches).
