**Puducherry, November 29, 2024** – Puducherry and Karaikal are bracing for a potential cyclone brewing in the Bay of Bengal. Authorities have implemented comprehensive preparedness measures, including the deployment of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and the installation of mobile pumps to prevent flooding.

Four NDRF teams are now in place, with requests for additional support sent to the central government. The Indian Coast Guard has also stepped up its presence, with a team assessing coastal preparedness and advising residents and fishermen to avoid the sea. A Coast Guard aircraft is on standby for search and rescue operations, supported by patrol vessels.

Schools and colleges have been closed for Friday and Saturday as a precaution. The district administration is actively removing roadside banners and hoardings to minimize potential hazards. Fishermen have been warned not to venture out to sea, and the police are actively preventing people from approaching the shoreline. The Public Works Department has strategically placed mobile pumps in vulnerable areas to manage potential waterlogging.

While rainfall has temporarily subsided, authorities remain vigilant, monitoring weather forecasts and continuing their preparations for the anticipated rainfall in the next two days. The administration held a high-level meeting to review preparedness, involving representatives from various departments and NDRF personnel.
