**Bengaluru, November 29, 2024** – The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announced today that its EOS-06 (Oceansat-3) and INSAT-3DR satellites are closely monitoring Cyclone Fengal, which is approaching Tamil Nadu. EOS-06, the third-generation Oceansat satellite, utilized its Scatterometer to detect the cyclone early and identify crucial ocean wind patterns, giving vital lead time for preparedness. The geostationary INSAT-3DR satellite provided continuous real-time updates on the cyclone’s intensity and trajectory. ISRO highlighted the satellites’ success in providing crucial data for effective monitoring and mitigation efforts, ensuring timely safety measures. This follows a similar success last month where ISRO satellites tracked Cyclone Dana. The timely warnings issued thanks to this advanced satellite technology are expected to aid in minimizing the impact of Cyclone Fengal on the Tamil Nadu coast. Rough seas are already being reported in Nagapattinam, Tamil Nadu, as the meteorological department issues warnings.
