**Ranchi, November 28:** Hemant Soren assumed charge as Jharkhand Chief Minister on Thursday, following his swearing-in ceremony. His administration immediately announced several significant policy decisions, including a substantial increase in the Maiyya Samman Yojana.

The flagship women’s empowerment scheme, Maiyya Samman Yojana, will see monthly payments doubled from ₹1000 to ₹2500, effective December. This move, heavily promoted during the election campaign, is widely believed to have contributed significantly to the JMM’s return to power.

Soren also directed the acceleration of recruitment processes under the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). A key initiative involves the release of an exam calendar by January 1, 2025, to fill all vacant positions.

Addressing the state’s substantial outstanding dues from the central government, estimated at ₹1.36 lakh crore, Soren announced legal action to recover the funds. Furthermore, the government will review the police recruitment examination process.

A special session of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly has been called for December 9-12, with senior JMM MLA Stephen Marandi appointed as pro tem speaker to administer the oath to newly elected MLAs.

Addressing the media, Soren highlighted the government’s commitment to boosting state revenue through various initiatives and announced the formation of a team to investigate the conditions of Jharkhand’s tribal populations residing in Assam.
