Fri Nov 29 00:42:32 UTC 2024: ## Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Takes Oath as Member of Parliament
**New Delhi, November 28** – Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress General Secretary, was sworn in as a Member of Parliament (MP) in the Lok Sabha today. She won the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala in a recent by-election. Taking the oath in Hindi, she held a copy of the Constitution. Her swearing-in was marked by Congress MPs chanting “Jodo-Jodo, Bharat Jodo” (Unite-Unite, Unite India).
Vadra is the 16th member of the Nehru-Gandhi family to enter Parliament. This is a significant event, marking the first time three members of the family – Priyanka, her brother Rahul Gandhi (Leader of Opposition), and mother Sonia Gandhi (Rajya Sabha MP) – are serving in Parliament simultaneously. This is in contrast to the previous election cycle where neither her aunt Menaka Gandhi nor cousin Varun Gandhi won seats.
Speaking after the ceremony, Vadra stated that her priorities would be raising crucial public issues and working for the country and her party. She emphasized her commitment to upholding the principles of the Constitution. Rahul Gandhi expressed his pride and happiness on his WhatsApp channel.
Vadra’s victory in Wayanad was by a margin of over four lakh votes. This marks her first entry into Parliament, having joined active politics before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and serving as Congress General Secretary since then. Her presence in Parliament is expected to bolster the Congress party’s strength.
