Wed Nov 27 06:37:09 UTC 2024: ## Seoul Hit by Worst November Snowstorm in 52 Years
**SEOUL, South Korea (November 27, 2024)** – South Korea’s capital, Seoul, is experiencing its most severe November snowstorm in over half a century, causing widespread disruption. Up to 20 centimeters (7.8 inches) of snow fell in northern Seoul and surrounding areas, grounding hundreds of flights and snarling commuter traffic. The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) confirmed this is the heaviest snowfall Seoul has seen since November 1972.
The heavy snow has led to significant disruptions. At least 220 flights were canceled or delayed nationwide, and around 90 ferries were ordered to remain in port. Hundreds of hiking trails were also closed. Icy roads caused slowdowns during the morning commute, and emergency services responded to numerous fallen trees and other hazards. One person died and four were injured in a five-vehicle accident in Hongcheon.
The storm impacted much of the country, with central, eastern, and southwestern regions receiving 10 to 23 centimeters of snow. President Yoon Suk Yeol has instructed relevant ministries to mobilize personnel and equipment to minimize accidents and provide timely updates to the public. The KMA predicts snow will continue until Thursday noon. The heavy snowfall has created challenging conditions for residents and prompted a significant response from authorities.
