**Ahmedabad, November 29, 2024** – Gujarat batsman Urvil Patel etched his name in the record books today, smashing a breathtaking century off just 28 balls in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. This makes it the second fastest T20 century ever recorded.
Patel’s explosive innings of 113 runs from 35 balls, including 12 sixes and 7 fours, saw him achieve a staggering strike rate of 322 against Tripura. While this is his maiden T20 century, it also shattered the previous record for the fastest century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, previously held by Rishabh Pant (32 balls). Only Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan holds a faster record, having scored a century off 27 balls earlier this year.
The 26-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman, who hails from Mehsana, Gujarat, made his T20 debut for Baroda in 2018 before joining the Gujarat team. He also holds the record for the second-fastest List A century, achieved in 2023. Patel previously played in the IPL for Gujarat Titans in 2023, but went unsold in the 2025 auction.
