**NEW DELHI, November 28, 2024** – Union Minister Giriraj Singh has called for United Nations intervention in Bangladesh following a series of attacks targeting Hindus. His comments, made on Wednesday, follow the arrest of an ISKCON monk and escalating concerns over the treatment of religious minorities in the country.
Singh condemned the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, stating the interim Bangladeshi government is under the influence of fundamentalists. He drew parallels to the situation in Pakistan, highlighting the targeting of Hindus and religious leaders as evidence of this influence. He specifically criticized the Opposition for addressing domestic issues while neglecting the situation in Bangladesh, challenging Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav to acknowledge the plight of Hindus in the neighboring country.
The Minister’s statement follows India’s earlier expression of deep concern over the arrest and denial of bail to the ISKCON monk. India had urged Bangladeshi authorities to ensure the safety and security of Hindus and other minority groups.
Several other MPs echoed these concerns. TMC MP Saugata Roy condemned the attacks and called for government intervention. Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi questioned Prime Minister Modi’s silence on the matter, contrasting it with his mediation efforts in other international conflicts. BJP MP Samik Bhattacharya also expressed concern over the widespread persecution of minorities in Bangladesh, including the destruction of religious sites and forced conversions.
Singh further advocated for a nationwide law in India to prevent religious conversions, citing a rise in such activity and asserting that a strong “Sanatani” majority is essential for a secure democracy. He praised Assam’s existing anti-conversion law as a model for other states.
