**Mumbai, India –** A 27-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly abetting the suicide of his 25-year-old girlfriend, an Air India pilot. Srishti Tuli was found dead in her Mumbai apartment on Monday, having apparently hanged herself. Aditya Pandit, her boyfriend, was arrested on Tuesday and charged under section 108 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by Tuli’s uncle, Pandit subjected her to consistent harassment and public humiliation throughout their two-year relationship. The FIR details several incidents of abuse, including verbal assaults and controlling behavior. Pandit allegedly pressured Tuli to change her diet, forcing her to abstain from non-vegetarian food.
One incident cited in the FIR involved a public argument in Gurugram where Pandit insulted Tuli in front of friends and family after she suggested they eat non-vegetarian food. He subsequently abandoned her on the road. Another incident involved Pandit blocking Tuli’s phone number for over a week after an argument, leaving her distressed. The FIR also mentions an incident where Pandit used derogatory language towards Tuli in front of his daughter, during a family trip to Delhi.
The couple met two years ago while Tuli was training to be a commercial pilot in Delhi. While no suicide note was found, Tuli’s uncle stated that she had confided in her cousin about the difficulties she faced in the relationship, expressing her inability to leave Pandit despite the abuse.
Pandit was produced in court and remanded to police custody until November 29th. The investigation is ongoing.
