Thu Nov 28 04:10:14 UTC 2024: ## H-1 Freeway Airport Viaduct Project Causes Nightly Closures

**HONOLULU (December 1, 2023)** – Drivers heading westbound on the H-1 Freeway should be prepared for significant nightly closures starting Tuesday, December 3rd. The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) announced that the westbound H-1 Freeway on-ramp from Kamehameha Highway (Exit 16) will be completely closed nightly from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m., Tuesday through Friday, for three weeks. This closure, part of Phase 3 of the H-1 Freeway Airport Viaduct Improvements Project, is necessary for joint expansion repairs and deck work.

The closure also impacts access to the H-1 Freeway near the Middle Street merge at the Keʻehi Interchange. Motorists heading to the airport during these hours will be detoured to Nimitz Highway, where they can access Daniel K. Inouye International Airport or re-enter the H-1 Freeway at the Pearl Harbor Interchange.

The work was delayed due to inclement weather. HDOT urges drivers to plan ahead, exercise caution, and follow all traffic control signs. Police officers will be present to assist, and emergency services have been notified. Closures are weather permitting.
