Wed Nov 27 21:35:21 UTC 2024: ## Numerous Bomb Threats Target Trump Administration Appointees

**Washington D.C. –** The FBI confirmed Wednesday that numerous bomb threats and “swatting” incidents have targeted incoming members of President-elect Donald Trump’s administration. The agency stated it is actively investigating these threats with law enforcement partners and urged the public to report any suspicious activity.

Trump transition team spokesperson Karoline Leavitt revealed that several high-profile nominees, including Lee Zeldin (EPA pick) and Elise Stefanik (UN ambassador pick), were among those targeted. Zeldin confirmed a pipe bomb threat was made against his family, while Stefanik’s office reported a bomb scare targeting her home. The Associated Press, citing anonymous law enforcement sources, added that incoming Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, former Attorney General pick Matt Gaetz, and his replacement Pam Bondi were also targeted.

These threats come amidst heightened concerns about political violence in the US, following the January 6th, 2021 Capitol riot and a series of attacks and threats against political figures in recent years, including two apparent assassination attempts against Trump himself. One incident in July resulted in a bullet grazing Trump’s ear, while another was averted in September.

While the FBI statement didn’t specify motives, the recent surge in threats has renewed calls for de-escalation of political rhetoric. President Biden has condemned political violence, while Trump has blamed Democrats, despite a lack of evidence linking the attacks against him to his political rivals. Leavitt, however, highlighted Trump’s response as a model for resilience against such threats. The FBI’s investigation is ongoing.
