Wed Nov 27 21:30:22 UTC 2024: ## Gujarat’s Patel Blasts Fastest T20 Century by an Indian

**Indore, India** – Urvil Patel, a Gujarat opener and wicketkeeper, has etched his name in Indian cricket history by smashing the fastest T20 century by an Indian batsman. Playing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on Wednesday, Patel achieved the feat in a mere 28 balls against Tripura at Holkar Stadium.

Patel’s whirlwind innings surpassed the previous record held by Rishabh Pant, who scored a century off 32 balls in the same tournament in 2018. Patel’s unbeaten 113 included 12 sixes and 7 fours from just 35 balls, powering Gujarat to an 8-wicket victory. Tripura, batting first, managed 155/8 in their 20 overs. Gujarat chased down the target in a mere 10.2 overs, losing only 2 wickets. A 150-run opening partnership between Patel and Aryan Desai set the stage for the dominant victory.

Globally, Patel’s achievement places him second fastest, behind only Saahil Chowhan of Estonia, who scored a T20 century off 27 balls against Cyprus. West Indies legend Chris Gayle is third on the list. While Rohit Sharma holds the record for the fastest T20I century by an Indian (35 balls against Sri Lanka in 2017).

Despite his impressive feat, Patel went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction. He was, however, picked up by Gujarat Titans in the 2023 mini-auction, though he didn’t get a chance to play in the league. He also holds the record for the second-fastest List A century, achieving the feat in 41 balls last year.

Patel’s overall T20 record is also commendable, with 988 runs at an average of 23.52 and a strike rate of 164.11 in 44 matches, including one century and four half-centuries.
