Wed Nov 27 15:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Panthers Claim Vikings Cornerback, Waive Leading Sack Producer
**Charlotte, NC** – The Carolina Panthers have bolstered their secondary by claiming cornerback Akayleb Evans off waivers from the Minnesota Vikings, the team announced Monday. To make room for the 2022 fourth-round pick, the Panthers waived veteran outside linebacker Charles Harris.
Evans, who started 15 games for the Vikings last season, has seen limited playing time this year, appearing on only three defensive snaps. He’s primarily contributed on special teams.
The move comes as a surprise given the release of Harris, who has been a key contributor to the Panthers’ pass rush. Harris, who leads the team in sacks with three this season (tied with another player), also recorded 21 tackles and seven quarterback hits in nine games. His playing time decreased significantly following the return of D.J. Wonnum from injury in Week 10.
The Panthers’ pass rush has struggled overall, totaling only 17 sacks as a team. The team’s decision to prioritize Evans, a younger player with potential, over a proven pass rusher like Harris highlights a shift in their roster strategy.
