MUMBAI – Mahindra & Mahindra has launched its first two Born Electric vehicles, the BE 6e and XEV 9e, marking a significant entry into the burgeoning electric vehicle market. While the XEV 9e is positioned as a premium offering, the BE 6e is directly competing with Tata Motors’ recently launched Curvv EV. Both vehicles share a similar coupe-like SUV design.
The BE 6e boasts a larger footprint than the Curvv EV, with a considerably longer wheelbase (2775mm vs. Curvv’s), promising superior interior space, particularly in the rear. However, the Curvv EV offers a larger boot. Mahindra offers the BE 6e with two battery pack options: 59 kWh and 79 kWh (both LFP chemistry), providing ARAI-certified ranges of 535 km and 682 km respectively. The 79 kWh version delivers 282 bhp and 380 Nm of torque, while the 59 kWh version produces 221 bhp and 380 Nm. Charging times vary, with a 175 kW DC fast charger capable of 20-80% charge in 20 minutes.
In contrast, the Tata Curvv EV offers 45 kWh and 55 kWh battery packs, with ranges of 425 km and 585 km respectively. Its single electric motor generates 165 bhp and 215 Nm of torque. A 70 kW DC fast charger can add approximately 150 km of range in 15 minutes.
Performance-wise, while the BE 6e’s top speed is yet to be announced, it accelerates from 0-100 kmph in 6.7 seconds, outpacing the Curvv EV’s 8.6 seconds. The Curvv EV boasts a top speed of 160 kmph. The launch of the BE 6e signals a strong challenge to Tata’s dominance in the electric SUV segment.
