Wed Nov 27 11:07:36 UTC 2024: ## Maharashtra’s Next Chief Minister: A Three-Way Race to be Decided by Amit Shah

**Mumbai, [Date]** – The future of Maharashtra’s chief ministership hangs in the balance as three top leaders from the Mahayuti alliance – Devendra Fadnavis (BJP), Eknath Shinde (Shiv Sena), and Ajit Pawar (NCP) – vie for the position. A crucial meeting is scheduled for tomorrow in Delhi with Home Minister Amit Shah to decide the outcome.

The Mahayuti alliance, comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP, secured a landslide victory in the recent assembly elections, winning 235 out of 288 seats. While the BJP emerged as the largest party with 132 seats, the contest for the top post remains fiercely contested. Prior to the elections, an agreement reportedly existed that Shinde would remain Chief Minister regardless of seat share. However, this agreement is now being challenged.

Union Minister Ramdas Athawale, an NDA ally, has publicly endorsed Fadnavis, citing the BJP’s significant victory as justification. He even commented on Shinde’s potential unhappiness with a Fadnavis appointment, suggesting Shinde could instead be offered a Union ministerial position.

Former Chief Minister and BJP leader Ashok Chavan emphasized the need for consensus among the alliance partners, stating that a decision will be made after consulting all parties involved. He played down concerns about delays in government formation.

The situation is further complicated by the political maneuvers of both Shinde and Pawar. Shinde was instrumental in toppling the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi government and securing the Shiv Sena’s name and symbol. Similarly, Pawar’s defection from the NCP, taking a large faction of MLAs with him, also played a significant role in the alliance’s success. Fadnavis, a former Chief Minister himself, also enjoys strong support within the BJP’s Maharashtra unit.

The contributions of all three leaders to the alliance’s victory make the selection of the next Chief Minister a challenging task for the BJP’s central leadership. Tomorrow’s meeting with Amit Shah will be crucial in determining the final outcome and resolving the intricate political dynamics at play.
