Tue Nov 26 16:54:19 UTC 2024: ## Miraz to Captain Bangladesh in 50th Test Against West Indies

**ANTIGUA** – Mehidy Hasan Miraz will captain Bangladesh in the first Test against West Indies, starting tonight at 8 PM (Bangladesh time), in Antigua. The match marks Miraz’s 50th Test appearance, a milestone he aims to celebrate with a victory. He takes the captaincy in the absence of the injured Najmul Hossain Shanto.

Despite a challenging recent record for the West Indies at home (five wins, eight losses, and four draws in their last 17 Tests), Bangladesh faces a tough task. The Windies have defeated Bangladesh in three of their five home Test victories, including a whitewash in their last series in 2022. Furthermore, Bangladesh has a dismal record at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, having lost all six previous Tests played there.

However, Miraz expressed confidence in his team’s preparation, stating that ten days of practice, including a warm-up match, has left the players well-prepared for a better performance. He emphasized the team’s focus on improved gameplay after their previous unsuccessful attempts in Antigua. “We haven’t played good Test cricket in Antigua before, but this time is different,” Miraz stated.
