**Jeddah, Saudi Arabia** – The Mumbai Indians (MI) have secured the services of promising Afghan spinner Allah Ghazanfar for a hefty sum of ₹2.20 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction. Ghazanfar, a 19-year-old mystery spinner, was hotly contested, with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore also vying for his signature.
Despite playing for KKR last year without featuring in a match, Ghazanfar’s recent impressive performances have catapulted him into the spotlight. In 16 T20 matches, he has claimed 29 wickets, including two four-wicket hauls. His ODI record is equally impressive, with 12 wickets at an economy rate of 4.36 in eight matches. His standout performance came earlier this month against Bangladesh, where he bagged 6 wickets for 26 runs in a Player of the Match winning performance. He also contributed significantly to Afghanistan’s Emerging Asia Cup victory.
The bidding war for Ghazanfar was intense, with KKR initiating the bidding before RCB joined the fray. However, MI ultimately secured the young talent, adding him to their roster alongside Karn Sharma as their second specialist spinner. Ghazanfar will now play under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya. This acquisition is a significant boost for MI ahead of the IPL 2025 season.
