**Harare, Zimbabwe –** Saim Ayub smashed the third-fastest ODI century for Pakistan, propelling his team to a 10-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in the second ODI on Tuesday. Ayub’s blistering 113 runs off just 62 balls, featuring 17 fours and three sixes, secured Pakistan a series-levelling win (1-1) after their loss in the first match. This maiden ODI ton also earned him the Player of the Match award.
Ayub’s knock was even more impressive considering Zimbabwe, after winning the toss and electing to bat, were bowled out for a paltry 145 runs in 32.3 overs. Leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed (4-33) and off-spinner Salman Ali Agha (3-26) spearheaded Pakistan’s bowling attack, making significant contributions in their ODI debuts.
Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan lauded Ayub’s performance, highlighting the solid foundation laid by the bowlers and praising Ayub’s exceptional innings. Ayub’s century, achieved in 53 balls, narrowly missed Shahid Afridi’s record for the fastest Pakistan ODI hundred (37 balls in 1996).
The impressive partnership between Ayub and Abdullah Shafique (32 not out) ensured a comfortable chase for Pakistan, securing a decisive win and setting up a thrilling final ODI on Thursday at the same venue. The two teams will then contest a three-match T20 series.
