Tue Nov 26 07:40:00 UTC 2024: ## Controversial Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma Goes Missing Amidst Police Investigation
**Ongole, Andhra Pradesh:** Ram Gopal Varma, the renowned and often controversial Telugu film director, is reportedly evading police questioning in connection with a case filed against him a month ago for allegedly making inappropriate remarks. Varma, known for his provocative films and statements, has been the subject of intense scrutiny after releasing movies perceived as favorable to a particular political party and making disparaging comments about opposition leaders Chandrababu Naidu, Pawan Kalyan, and Nara Lokesh. These comments included personal insults and allegedly morphed photographs.
Police initially served Varma with a notice to appear for questioning in Ongole on November 19th. He requested a postponement, citing a film shoot, and subsequently filed a petition in the High Court to quash the case. After the court rejected his petition, he attempted to negotiate further postponements through WhatsApp messages and a letter delivered through his lawyer. Despite being issued another notice to appear on November 25th, Varma failed to attend and has since become unreachable.
His phone is reportedly switched off, and police have been unable to locate him after visiting his Hyderabad office. A widespread search is currently underway in both Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The situation is reminiscent of Varma’s own film, “Daud,” about a fugitive on the run, highlighting the irony of the director now finding himself in a similar predicament. The police suspect he is deliberately avoiding questioning.
