Mon Nov 25 22:50:00 UTC 2024: ## Modi’s Visakhapatnam Visit Cancelled Due to Cyclone Threat

**Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, November 26, 2024** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s planned visit to Visakhapatnam on November 29th has been cancelled due to severe weather conditions. The impending cyclone, fueled by a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal, is expected to bring heavy rainfall to the state from November 26th to 30th, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The Prime Minister was scheduled to lay the foundation stone for a massive green hydrogen project in Anakapalli district, a joint venture between NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) and the New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited (NREDCAP). This project, touted as India’s largest green energy initiative, is slated to produce 1,500 tonnes of green hydrogen daily, along with significant amounts of green ammonia, methanol, and urea or sustainable aviation fuel. The project’s estimated cost is ₹1.85 lakh crores.

While preparations were underway, including the selection of Andhra University’s Engineering College grounds as a potential venue for a virtual ceremony, the IMD’s weather warnings forced the cancellation. NTPC officials confirmed the cancellation and stated that a rescheduled date, possibly in mid-December, is being considered. State government officials expressed their disappointment but acknowledged the necessity of prioritizing safety given the weather forecast.
