NEW DELHI, November 26, 2024 – Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has declined to comment directly on the ongoing manhunt for film director Ram Gopal Varma, who is evading arrest on charges of making objectionable social media posts against Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, and IT Minister Nara Lokesh.
Varma failed to appear at the Ongole Rural Police Station despite receiving a notice. Police are currently searching for him across both Telugu states. Reports indicate that Varma’s lawyer has applied for pre-arrest bail, citing prior shooting commitments.
While in Delhi on a visit, Mr. Kalyan addressed the media regarding the situation. He stated that he would not comment on the investigation at this time, deferring to the police and urging the media to direct their questions to the Chief Minister. He emphasized his own responsibilities and the limitations of his jurisdiction, stating that the home and law and order portfolios do not fall under his purview. He committed to conveying the media’s concerns to Chief Minister Naidu.
