Tue Nov 26 11:15:55 UTC 2024: ## Imran Khan Supporters Prepare Mass Protests Demanding His Release
**ISLAMABAD** – Tens of thousands of supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party are mobilizing for mass protests demanding the release of imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The demonstrations are expected to be large-scale, with participants converging on Islamabad from across the country.
Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin, led a large convoy from Peshawar to Islamabad in a show of support. In anticipation of potential unrest, a lockdown has been imposed in Islamabad for Sunday. The government has deployed heavy security forces, closed major roads leading to Islamabad and Rawalpindi, and suspended train and metro bus services in the cities. Internet access has also been restricted in some areas. Authorities have warned against unauthorized protests and threatened action against violators; sixteen individuals attempting to enter Islamabad were already detained in Rawalpindi.
PTI leaders have vowed to continue protests until Khan’s release, warning of dire consequences if their demands are not met. They alluded to the recent violent protests in Bangladesh that led to the resignation and departure of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, suggesting a similar outcome could occur in Pakistan. Khan is currently imprisoned facing multiple charges.
