Tue Nov 26 17:39:26 UTC 2024: ## Pakistan: Imran Khan Supporters Clash with Security Forces Amidst Allegations of UAE Mediation Attempt

**Islamabad, Pakistan –** Violent clashes erupted between supporters of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and security forces on Monday, resulting in the death of at least one security official and numerous injuries. Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party is staging widespread protests across the country, demanding his release from jail.

Sources claim that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency is attempting to mediate a reconciliation between the Pakistani military and Khan, seeking the intervention of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). However, initial indications suggest the UAE is hesitant to intervene, citing unpopularity of the current army chief, General Asim Munir, within Pakistan. Saudi Arabia has also reportedly distanced itself from Munir due to similar concerns.

According to sources close to Khan, including Dr. Salman Ahmed, the Pakistani military has contacted the UAE to mediate between them and Khan. These sources also allege that Khan’s life is in danger and that the army intends to harm him, a claim he reportedly reinforced by refusing to relocate to his residence in Bani Gala. The sources further indicate that both the UAE and Saudi Arabia perceive the ruling coalition (PDM) and the military government as failures.

The protests, which have seen PTI activists converge on Islamabad from across the country, have turned violent. Khan, who has been imprisoned since August 2022 following his ouster amid disputes with the military, called for a march on parliament and subsequent sit-in to protest his arrest. The situation remains tense, with concerns over escalating violence and political instability in Pakistan.
