Mon Nov 25 19:26:02 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Police Arrest Jewellery Shop Employee for ₹1 Crore Heist

**New Delhi, November 26, 2024** – Delhi police have apprehended Amit Verma, a former employee of a Chandni Chowk jewellery shop, for the theft of over ₹1 crore worth of gold jewellery. Verma, who was reportedly facing significant financial difficulties with an ₹80 lakh debt, allegedly absconded with 1.8 kg of jewellery – including 110 rings, 30 necklaces, and numerous earrings – on November 18th.

The theft occurred when Verma, under the guise of procuring gold designs, obtained the jewellery from another jeweller, Pankaj Goyal. Following his disappearance, Goyal reported the theft to police.

A subsequent manhunt across several Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand cities, including Farrukhabad, Bijnor, Haridwar, and Saharanpur, led to Verma’s arrest on Sunday in Azad Nagar (East), Delhi. All stolen jewellery has been recovered. DCP (North) Raja Banthia stated that Verma had returned to Delhi on November 23rd before his apprehension.
