Tue Nov 26 05:33:26 UTC 2024: **Maharashtra CM Post: BJP Proposes Power-Sharing Deal, Shinde Reportedly Dissatisfied**
MUMBAI, INDIA – A power-sharing agreement is reportedly being negotiated for the post of Maharashtra Chief Minister, following the recent state assembly elections. Sources within the BJP suggest a deal has been struck to rotate the Chief Ministership between BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis and Eknath Shinde of the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction). Fadnavis is reportedly slated to serve as CM for the first two and a half years, followed by Shinde. Ajit Pawar is expected to continue as Deputy CM.
This arrangement comes after the BJP’s strong performance in the elections, where the alliance achieved a significant number of seats, unprecedented in the last 50 years. The BJP played a key role in forming the coalition, including facilitating the split within the Shiv Sena between Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde. The BJP successfully leveraged public perception of Uddhav Thackeray’s actions, including his alliance with parties considered ideologically opposed to the Shiv Sena.
While the BJP claims this power-sharing deal has been accepted by all parties, the Shinde faction has denied receiving any such proposal. Sources close to Shinde indicate that he is unhappy with the proposed arrangement, preferring to retain the Chief Ministership. The BJP’s senior leader Devendra Fadnavis traveled to Delhi on Monday, reportedly meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to finalize the details. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to visit Mumbai on Tuesday to finalize the decision. An official announcement is expected soon, potentially around the 28th or 29th of this month.
