**Thrissur, Kerala –** Five people, including two children, were killed and seven others injured early Tuesday morning when a timber-laden lorry crashed into a group of homeless people sleeping near the J.K. Theatre in Nattika, Thrissur district.
The accident occurred around 4 a.m. The lorry, traveling from Kannur to Kochi, reportedly lost control, hitting barricades before overturning and striking the group of ten sleeping individuals. Police suspect the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel. The driver is in custody, and an investigation is underway.
The deceased have been identified as Kaliyappan (50), Jeevan (4), Nagamma (39), and Bangazhi (20). The injured were taken to Thrissur Medical College. The bodies were also transported to the hospital. The incident has sparked outrage and renewed calls for improved road safety measures in the area.
