Tue Nov 26 00:39:41 UTC 2024: ## Himachal CM Advocates for Ballot Paper Elections Amidst EVM Concerns
**Shimla, [Date]** – Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today called for a return to ballot paper voting to address concerns over the reliability of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). Speaking to reporters, Sukhu cited the abandonment of EVMs by countries that initially adopted the technology, arguing that the potential for hacking necessitates a more transparent system. He even referenced Elon Musk’s comments on EVM vulnerabilities.
This statement came alongside the inauguration of several development projects in the Kasumpti Assembly constituency, totaling ₹43.37 crore. These projects included a Zila Parishad Bhawan and a government college building.
Sukhu also announced that the government will be reforming its subsidy system for water and electricity, stating that affluent individuals, including ministers and officials, should no longer receive these benefits. Subsidies for the weaker sections of society will remain in place.
The Chief Minister further criticized the BJP, accusing them of spreading misinformation on social media to discredit the state government. He attributed these actions to frustration over the BJP’s electoral defeat, despite launching numerous projects shortly before the elections. Sukhu defended his government’s initiatives, emphasizing their focus on improving the lives of rural residents rather than seeking electoral gains. He contrasted this approach with what he described as the BJP’s preferential treatment of the wealthy. The Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister, Anirudh Singh, expressed his gratitude for the newly inaugurated projects.
