Mon Nov 25 16:33:38 UTC 2024: ## Gaza Storm Devastates Thousands of Displacement Camps Amidst Ongoing Israeli Offensive

**Gaza City, Palestine** – Heavy rains and flooding have caused widespread damage to displacement camps across the Gaza Strip, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis already gripping the region. According to Gaza’s Government Media Office, approximately 10,000 tents were either destroyed or severely damaged by the storm, leaving thousands of displaced Palestinians exposed to the elements.

The storm hit as Israeli forces intensified their attacks on the enclave, further complicating the already dire situation. Overnight downpours inundated flimsy tents, many of which were already worn out from months of use. Displaced families described desperate attempts to protect their belongings from the deluge, using buckets and digging trenches to divert water.

“We left the north and survived the bombings, we left after the siege, but now the rain and cold are killing us,” said Ahmad, a displaced resident of Jabalia, highlighting the layered trauma faced by those already affected by the ongoing conflict.

The Government Media Office stated that 81 percent of displaced persons’ tents are unusable, with 110,000 of the 135,000 tents needing urgent replacement. The escalating price of new shelter materials further compounds the problem, leaving many families without resources to rebuild.

The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned that half a million people across Gaza are at risk in flood-affected areas, emphasizing that the situation will worsen with continued rainfall and ongoing hostilities. Al Jazeera reported from Deir el-Balah that many coastal tent sites are ill-equipped to withstand such severe weather.

Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes continued to target various areas of Gaza, including Rafah and Jabalia, resulting in at least eleven civilian deaths, according to medics. Israel dropped leaflets in Beit Lahiya ordering residents to evacuate, fueling concerns of a deliberate attempt to depopulate the northern Gaza Strip, an accusation Israel denies.

The ongoing conflict has already claimed the lives of at least 44,235 Palestinians and wounded over 104,638 since October 7, 2023. The storm and its devastating impact on displaced communities underscore the urgent need for international humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering in Gaza.
