Deputy Chief Ministers Ajit Pawar and Devendra Fadnavis were present at the Raj Bhavan. While Shinde will continue as caretaker Chief Minister until a new government is formed, the announcement leaves the question of his successor unanswered.
The BJP-led NDA coalition achieved a landslide victory in the recent assembly elections, securing 235 out of 288 seats. However, the coalition has yet to reach a consensus on the next Chief Minister, with discussions reportedly ongoing in Delhi. The BJP’s performance was particularly noteworthy, winning a record 132 seats under the leadership of Devendra Fadnavis. The selection of the next Chief Minister remains a point of contention within the coalition.
