Tue Nov 26 06:54:28 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Chokes on ‘Very Poor’ Air Quality
**New Delhi, November 26, 2024** – A thick haze enveloped New Delhi on Tuesday morning, as the city’s air quality plummeted to “very poor” levels. The Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 392 at 9 a.m., a significant deterioration from Monday’s 281, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). This alarming figure indicates a serious health risk for residents.
Seventeen of the city’s 39 monitoring stations recorded “severe” air quality, with an AQI of 400 or higher. Such levels pose significant health threats to all, particularly those with pre-existing conditions.
Despite the poor air quality, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts mainly clear skies for the day, with a maximum temperature of around 27 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 11.9 degrees Celsius (0.6 degrees above normal). Humidity stood at 80% at 8:30 a.m.
Authorities are employing measures to combat the pollution, with images showing an anti-smog gun mounted on a multi-purpose vehicle spraying water droplets in an attempt to mitigate the haze. The ongoing situation highlights the urgent need for sustained efforts to improve Delhi’s air quality.
