**New Delhi, November 26, 2024** – India launched a year-long celebration commemorating the 75th anniversary of the adoption of its Constitution. President Droupadi Murmu began the festivities with a joint address to both Houses of Parliament, emphasizing the Constitution’s enduring importance to Indian democracy.

The government unveiled a new website, constitution75.com, to engage citizens with the Constitution’s legacy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in Constitution Day celebrations at the Supreme Court, releasing the 2023-24 annual report of the Indian Judiciary.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, addressing Parliamentarians as “guardians of democracy,” highlighted the importance of preserving democratic institutions and recalled the challenges posed during the Emergency. He underscored the Constitution’s role in anchoring Indian democracy and urged constructive dialogue to maintain its sanctity.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended greetings, emphasizing the Constitution’s role in ensuring national unity and integrity. Several political leaders, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, called for citizens to protect the Constitution’s ethos and its inherent philosophy.

The celebrations included a commemorative coin and stamp release. The day also marked the official opening of the Samvidhan Sadan (formerly the Old Parliament House), where the Constituent Assembly first met in 1946. The event highlighted the long and complex history of the Constitution’s creation, emphasizing it as the culmination of India’s freedom struggle.
