Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the approval following a cabinet meeting, detailing that Rs 1,750 crore will fund the 186 MW Tato-I Hydro Electric Project, and Rs 1,939 crore will fund the 240 MW Heo Hydro Electric Project, both located in Shi Yomi District.

These projects, implemented through joint ventures between North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd. (NEEPCO) and the Arunachal Pradesh government, are expected to significantly improve the state’s power supply and contribute to national grid stability.

The central government will provide substantial financial assistance, including budgetary support for infrastructure development (roads, bridges, and transmission lines) totaling Rs 204.65 crore across both projects. Further Central Financial Assistance of Rs 250.86 crore will support the state’s equity share.

Arunachal Pradesh will receive 12% of the generated power free of charge, plus an additional 1% for the Local Area Development Fund (LADF). The projects are also slated to fund the construction of essential infrastructure within the district, including hospitals, schools, vocational training centers, and marketplaces, with a dedicated Rs 15 crore allocation.
