**Patna, Bihar** – Jan Suraaj leader Prashant Kishor has delivered a stark assessment of Bihar, calling it a “failed state” in dire need of comprehensive reform. Addressing the Bihari diaspora in the US, Kishor, a former poll strategist, expressed confidence in his party’s victory in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. He outlined a plan to lift the state’s alcohol ban, using the resulting revenue to overhaul the education system.
Kishor painted a grim picture of the state’s current condition, comparing its struggles to those of war-torn nations. He emphasized the pervasive sense of hopelessness among Bihar’s citizens, prioritizing immediate survival needs over long-term development. He acknowledged the challenges ahead, stating that even with a Jan Suraaj victory in 2025, achieving middle-income state status by 2029-2030 would be a significant undertaking.
Despite the bleak assessment, Kishor expressed optimism, attributing it to the party’s progress over the past two and a half years. He urged members of the diaspora to actively participate in the party’s efforts, highlighting the need for long-term commitment to effect meaningful change. His top priority, should Jan Suraaj win, would be improving school education funded by lifting the alcohol prohibition.
However, Kishor’s assessment comes on the heels of the party’s poor performance in recent by-elections, where Jan Suraaj candidates lost deposits in almost all seats. The ruling NDA swept the by-polls, winning all four seats. Kishor also criticized the Bihari diaspora for a perceived lack of tangible contribution to Bihar’s development.
