**Pathanamthitta, Kerala, November 26, 2024** – A photograph of 30 police officers posing with their backs to the Sabarimala Ayyappan Temple on the sacred 18 steps has sparked outrage. The image, taken on Sunday afternoon after the temple closed, quickly went viral, prompting accusations of disrespecting the temple’s sanctity.
According to sources, the officers were on duty at the steps when a media person captured the photo. A preliminary investigation suggests negligence on the part of the officers. The incident has drawn sharp criticism from Hindu organizations.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) S. Sreejith has ordered a detailed report into the matter. Sannidhanam Special Officer K.E. Baiju has already submitted a report following the ADGP’s directive. The investigation is ongoing.
